How to Set the Mood for Success – Mid East Peace Talks

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 31, 2010

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef - age does not always promise wisdom

With age we expect a certain amount of wisdom to come, sometimes this is painfully just not the case.  Take for example, an 89 year old Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, founder and spiritual leader of the Shas political party, Rabbi Yosef is one of the most powerful religious figures in Israel.  On Saturday he said  “May our enemies and those who hate us be gone from this world. May the Holy One Blessed Be He strike them down with plague, them and those Palestinians, evil ones and enemies of Israel….Abu Mazen [Mahmoud Abbas] and all these evil people should perish from this world…”God should strike them with a plague, them and these Palestinians.”  Can we say that this was just a one time slip of the tongue so to speak?  Maybe, if it hadn’t been for the fact that in April 2001, he called  for the annihilation of Arabs…”It is forbidden to be merciful to them. You must send missiles to them and annihilate them. They are evil and damnable,” he said.

Probably the most alarming thing here is this man is a crazy spiritual leader.  Once you put God into any equation it is highly flammable.  Of course if anybody were to call for the destruction of Israel -i.e that crazy bastard Mahmoud Ahmadinejad all hell breaks loose.  But here’s the difference – Rabbi Yosef is a leader, a recognized spiritual lead of the very powerful Shas political party in Israel.   Israel is obviously directly involved, Iran is not.   Is he the voice of a few extremists or does he represent the majority?  One might even say that in essence this call for a genocide of the Palestinian people is akin to Hitler justifying  the holocaust of the Jews by using Godly and Biblical reasoning.  One of his most revealing statements makes this quite clear:

“Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.”  Mein Kamp

Beck Has a Kumbaya Moment – Or a Charlatan on Display

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 29, 2010

Whether “Divinely” inspired or financially motivated Glenn Beck’s Kumbaya moment was an opportunity missed.  He has the opportunity to build a bridge by simply recognizing that the US is comprised of many religions, not exclusively Christianity.

Although I still have some concerns about exactly where Glenn gets his inspiration…By the way who are the Koch brothers?  Might want to take a read here…. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/08/30/100830fa_fact_mayer

Of course before it even began, the word was out..watch out for those plants from the “left” who will masquerade among the “Righteous” right say offensive things…can you feel the love?

Yes, I think Glenn Beck does have a dream…

Is Obama a Socialist?

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 28, 2010

Is Obama A Socialist?

Right up there with Obama is a Muslim, and Obama is not a US citizen, is the claim that Obama is a socialist.  Is he?

According to Fox News on July 13, 55% of Americans think President Obama is a socialist.

First we should define socialism, this seems to be as elusive as anything.   There are a few things we can generalize about..but most socialists believe workers and consumers who are affected by economic institutions should own or control them.  M-W defines socialism as “any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.”  Ok.  I can accept that as a definition.

According to Billy  Wharton, co-chair of the Socialist Party USA he says  Obama isn’t a socialist. He’s not even a liberal.  “We didn’t see a great victory with the election of Barack Obama,” Wharton says, ” and we certainly didn’t see our agenda move from the streets to the White House.”

But does America already have what one could term “socialistic values”?    According to  an associate professor of history at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.  Van Gosse – the answer is yes.  Social Security, Medicare, unemployment benefits — all reflect socialistic values.  The professor maintains things like Pell Grants for college students are socialistic in origin, “they fit well with the socialistic premise that government should provide basic security from the cradle to the grave to all of its citizens.  We assert that education should not be left up to the private market — where those who can pay, get it and those who can’t, don’t get it. It’s a common good and in that sense it is a socialistic institution even if the U.S. remains a capitalist nation.”

I just can’t view a Pell grant, giving people a means for further education as an evil thing.   The re-organization of student lending in late March, as part of the health-care overhaul, Congress voted to force out commercial lenders. The government was guaranteeing loans made by private companies who turned a profit on the loans.  Call me crazy, but if I am guaranteeing the loan, and taking all the risk, why should I give all the profit to somebody who is just acting as a middle man?  There is something called risk and reward in capitalism.  Yes, if I were a bank I would be upset as I put nothing at risk and simply collect money,  absolutely nothing at risk, that is one hell of a deal.  The “reward” or profit should in fact go to the one who takes on the risk.   On a more serious note, education  is one of the biggest challenges facing the US.  By the year 2030 India is predicted to have the world’s most educated people.   As of 2009, according to a UN report, Georgia, not the state in the US, but the country of Georgia holds the highest literacy rate, the US for the record is #21.  So if providing a means for people to educate themselves is socialism, I am all for it.

What about Obamacare?  Is that socialism?  According to Wharton, the answer is a resounding NO!  They wanted a national “single-payer” health insurance plan with a government option, and that didn’t happen.  Wharton goes even further to say  the new health care bill only strengthens private health insurance companies. They get 32 million new customers and no incentive to change — something a socialist wouldn’t accept.   “Most of it was authored by the health care industry, I call it the corporate restructuring of health care.”

Ok, but what about Newt Gingrich’s favorite attack, the take over of GM?   The government according to GM did not exert pressure to close the 1,100 shuttered dealerships, says spokeswoman Noreen Pratscher. “The government has taken a very hands-off approach.”

According to the Economist, Aug. 19, 2010..

An apology is due to Barack Obama: his takeover of GM could have gone horribly wrong, but it has not

GM is ready to raise cash with a new stock offering.   Had the government not stepped in, GM might have restructured under normal bankruptcy procedures, without putting public money at risk. Many observers think this unlikely, however. Given the panic that gripped private purse-strings last year, it is more likely that GM would have been liquidated, sending a cascade of destruction through the supply chain on which its rivals, too, depended.  While we are not out of the woods with GM, we are certainly in a better position than anticipated.

Newt also likes to harp on the AIG takeover…US government still owns almost 80 percent of AIG, which has received at least $182 billion in government assistance.  In his book, Gingrich implies that government officials stormed into AIG’s headquarters and took over the company. “They have taken over AIG, America’s largest insurer,” he writes.

The actual “takeover” of AIG occurred under President Bush in 2008, right after the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy.  The takeover of an ailing company whose collapse might ruin the US economy is not socialism, says Van Gosse. “Let’s just say AIG was profitable, and you thought it was better if it was in public hands. That would be socialistic.”  AIG was not profitable.

The “talking point” that I often hear that absolutely proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Pres.  Obama is a socialist is he said “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money”.  Did he say that yes…he did, but hear the entire quote..”We’re not, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money. But, you know, part of the American way is, you know, you can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or providing good service. We don’t want people to stop, ah, fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow our economy.”  Read in context it is a whole other animal.

So who is a socialist?

Frank Llewellyn, the national director of the Democratic Socialists of America, says he was struck by one player in the 2008 presidential elections who displayed more socialistic leanings than Obama.  This candidate raised taxes on the big oil companies, and sent the revenue to the people.  If you want to learn something about spreading the wealth, Llewellyn says, don’t look to Obama.  “To be honest, the most socialist candidate in the 2008 election was Sarah Palin.”

Let me close with a quote from the Economist:

Socialists don’t privatise

That does not mean, however, that bail-outs are always or often justified. Straightforward bankruptcy is usually the most efficient way to allow floundering firms to restructure or fail. The state should step in only when a firm’s collapse poses a systemic risk. Propping up the financial system in 2008 clearly qualified. Saving GM was a harder call, but, with the benefit of hindsight, the right one. The lesson for governments is that for a bail-out to work, it must be brutal and temporary. The lesson for American voters is that their president, for all his flaws, has no desire to own the commanding heights of industry. A gambler, yes. An interventionist, yes. A socialist, no.

Glenn Beck – Restoring What?

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 28, 2010

Beck the Messiah -

Beck the Messiah - Be AFRAID people be VERY, VERY, AFRAID

Glenn Beck is receiving “Divine” inspiration regarding “Destiny” : “We are 12 hours away from fundamentally transforming the United States” , transforming it into what exactly is my question. Of course Glenn just didn’t realize it WAS also the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s I have a Dream speech, and it is pure coincidence that it is on the Lincoln Memorial where King gave that speech.  Let’s not forget he called Pres. Obama a racist. When even a Fox News colleague said the location was wrong (Greta Van Susteren) from her blog..

On August 28th my colleague Glenn Beck is going to lead an event on the mall in Washington, DC. It is the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech. The event is causing much controversy …some support and some don’t support and some are even furious and upset. Yes he has a First Amendment right to do it…but what about the wisdom of it? Remember…the Muslims in NYC have a First Amendment right to build a mosque but most Americans don’t want it…and you have to ask the wisdom of the Muslims to push the issue. Just because you have the right to do something does not mean you should. My view? No mosque at ground zero and Glenn should move his event.

It does not help heal the country on so many fronts if we poke a stick in eyes.

So of course this is all just one big coincidence. Uh,huh.

And it is not political!!! Just because Sarah Palin is going to be there, and it is held in Washington DC, it isn’t political.  (And the fact that Republicans are trying so hard to distance themselves from this, you would think they have never even heard of Glenn Beck).  So it isn’t political.  Uh,huh.
This is how Glenn describes his Divine Destiny Event…from his site
Glenn Beck’s Divine Destiny is an eye-opening evening at the historic Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C that will help heal your soul. Guided by uplifting music, nationally-known religious figures from all faiths will unite to deliver messages reminiscent to those given during the struggles of America’s earliest days. The event will leave you with a renewed determination to look past the partisan differences and petty problems that fill our airwaves and instead focus our shared values, principles and strong belief that faith can play an essential role in reuniting the country.

I caught bits and pieces..to be honest I didn’t have the stomach to hear it all.  But I feel fairly confident in saying Glenn is teetering on the edge, he thinks he is the Messiah, be afraid people, be very, very afraid.

Here’s a word of advice for those attending, if you are offered a big glass of “Kool Aid” decline it…#justsaying

..guess I have to create a new category and tag for the blog..right wing nut jobs.

Americans Showing Religious Tolerance in Queens

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 26, 2010

If you need another reason to be proud of Americans and our religious tolerance…

From http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local&id=7630863

QUEENS (WABC) — An apparently drunk man was arrested for shouting anti-Muslim slurs as he urinated on prayer rugs in a mosque in the Astoria section of Queens.

Omar Rivera was charged with criminal trespass after worshipers  at the Al-Iman Mosque on Steinway Street subdued him Wednesday night.

Holding a beer bottle, Rivera burst in during evening prayers. He allegedly shouted anti-Muslim slurs, calling the worshipers “terrorists,” then flashed his middle finger and urinated on the prayer rugs.

Two worshipers subdued him and called 911.

Rivera was charged and taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

How Far Away Should the Mosque At Ground Zero Be? 3,000 Miles? The Answer is No.

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 26, 2010

In order for peaceful Muslims  to be “sensitive” to the sacredness of Ground Zero, (keeping in mind over 300 Muslims died on 9/11) the question is now..how far is far enough?  2 miles?  20 miles?  How about 3,000 miles away in California?  Evidently that is not far enough.  I am certain the founding Father’s are rolling in their graves and that when God looks down He weeps.  We have to stop and ask ourselves is this what America is?  We have let the right wing nut jobs in the media and cyberspace fan the flames of ignorance, they pepper the airways with half truths and lies, the masses work themselves up into a frenzy…and this is the result.

Be warned my fellow Americans, if we keep silent on this attack on Islam, your religion, your lifestyle is next to be attacked.  I grieve today, for the men and women who for the past 230 plus years have shed their blood for freedom of religion.  This is how we thank them?

3,000 miles is still too close to Ground Zero

Vandalism to a Madera mosque and signs found on the property are being investigated as a hate crime, the Madera County authorities said. Local Muslims worry that the controversy over the Islamic center near Ground Zero is fanning the flames in intolerance.

Imam Abdullah Salem arrived at the Madera Islamic Center on Tuesday to find a pair of menacing signs, including one that read “Wake up America, the enemy is here.”

It was the latest in a series of incidents that the Madera County Sheriff’s Department is investigating as hate crimes. On Sunday, a brick nearly smashed a window at the center on Road 26 just outside Madera. Last week, another sign left on the property read “No temple for the god of terrorism.”

Signs left at the mosque claimed to be from a group called the “American Nationalist Brotherhood.” Sheriff’s officials said they hadn’t heard of such an organization.

Some local Muslims worry that talk radio hosts who have repeatedly invited callers to express their anger about the controversy surrounding a proposed Islamic center near the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City are fanning flames of intolerance — and putting their families in danger.

“It’s hate talk on the radio,” said Dr. Mohammad Ashraf, a Madera cardiologist who is Muslim. “It’s everywhere — not only in Madera. [It’s in] San Diego, Kentucky, Tennessee.”

Imam Seyed Ali Ghazvini of the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno agreed.

“Sound bites are so easy to spew out, and the truth doesn’t bring in higher ratings,” Ghazvini said in an e-mail. “I believe that these unfounded attacks are dangerous and irresponsible. Radio talk show hosts across this country and locally live to insult Muslims and rile people against them.”

Two local talk-radio hosts, however, deny that they are promoting intolerance.

“The audience is pretty much whipped into a frenzy,” acknowledged radio personality Ray Appleton, who hosts a lunch-hour show on KMJ (AM 580). “I’ve done my best to hold the rhetoric down.”

Appleton said he has worked to keep his callers on subject — which he said is a “lack of sensitivity” in building the Islamic center near Ground Zero in New York. He said he tries to redirect callers who attack Islam — or cut them off.

Former Fresno Mayor Alan Autry, who hosts a morning radio show on KYNO (AM 940) that has spent considerable time on the New York Islamic center, also put the blame on his callers. Addressing the Madera mosque incidents, he said “knuckleheads do things like that. They don’t need to be stirred up.”

The attacks at the Madera Islamic Center come during the month of Ramadan — the faith’s most holy time. Salem said that made the incidents especially worrisome.

The center’s approximately 150 families are not angry, he said. “But they are worried about the safety of the children and the ladies.”

During Ramadan, it is important for believers to pray throughout the day, the evening and at night. That makes it more likely that women and children will be at the mosques late.

Ashraf said the center plans to hire security and increase video surveillance. Salem stayed at the center all night Tuesday after he found the most recent signs.

Salem said the recent vandalism at the Madera mosque is greater than anything else seen in its 15-year history — including the days after 9/11.

The Consquences of Being Ignorant – NY Cabbie Stabbed for Being a Muslim

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 25, 2010

Don't Keep Silent!!!

It has finally happened…tangible consequences of a hate campaign fueled by ignorance, half truths, lies and political agendas.  A NYC cabbie was attacked, stabbed for being a Muslim.

The passenger, Michael Enright, 21, of Brewster, N.Y., hailed the cab at Second Avenue and East 24th Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the police said. He slashed and stabbed the 43-year-old driver in his throat, face and arm.  The driver,  Ahmed H. Sharif, 43, (who has been in the US for over 25 years) stopped the cab and approached a police officer on Third Avenue near 42nd Street. Mr. Enright was arrested at the scene.

Mr. Sharif’s fare started the ride asking him in a friendly way if he was Muslim, whether he was observing Ramadan, and how long he had been in the United States. After falling silent for a few minutes, the passenger began cursing and screaming, and then yelled, “Assalamu alaikum — consider this a checkpoint!” and slashed Mr. Sharif across the neck, and then on the face from his nose to his upper lip, the alliance said. (“Assalamu alaikum” — “peace be with you” — is a traditional Muslim greeting.)

Congratulations to each and every person who rallied against the Park 51 project and promoted an atmosphere of intolerance and ignorance.  A special thank you goes out to (in no particular order)

1.  Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs, feel free to contact her at writeatlas@aol.com, I did.. Dear Pamela,
I would like to send you some soap from Crab Tree and Evelyn to help you wash some of the blood of your hands.  After you have whipped the masses into a frenzy with half truths and lies, you are gaining ground!  Congratulations, a cabbie was stabbed in NYC because he was a Muslim.  Kudos Pamela, job well done.  I can hardly wait to see what you come up with next!
Lots of love

2. Sarah Palin of Alaska who has a remarkable record for quitting and never knowing when to shut her mouth, contact her at twitter.com/sarahpalinusa, I did… @sarahpalinusa do u need soap to wash the blood of the NYC cabbie off your hands? or are you not finished fanning the flames of ignorance?

3.  Newt Gingrich who has  called organizers of the “Ground Zero Mosque” “radical Islamists” seeking “supremacy.” He went on to say that building an Islamic cultural center two blocks away from the former site of the World Trade Center towers would be akin to Nazis putting up signs near the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.  Contact him at http://www.newt.org/contact (I did as follows: Dear Newt..I have a question.  Do you now feel like you have blood on your hands?  Or is that not part of your political agenda?  Specifically I refer to the NYC cabbie who was stabbed for being a Muslim.  Do you think your rhetoric contributed to any of this?  Or you were too busy pandering for potential votes?  Just wondering..

4.  Pat Robertson, that wonderful Christian man who would like your money, and by the way filed a lawsuit to block the mosque.  I contacted Pat thru the 700 Club asking for prayer  http://www.cbn.com/contact/prayer-form.aspx?topic=Healing I wrote …Please Pat, let us all pray for a more spiritual approach to life and let us all wash the blood from our hands from listening to you and your anti-Islamic rhetoric, let us all ask God to forgive us for stirring up hatred in the hearts of others with mis-information and lies.  I am speaking Pat of the NYC cabbie who was attacked because he was a Muslim.  Do you feel vindicated now?  Do you feel your message has been received by your faithful followers or do you have more for us?)

5.  The Anti Defamation League, who thinks it is wrong to hate, except if you are a Muslim. Contact them at http://support.adl.org/site/PageServer?pagename=contact_us I did with the following inquiry:  Hello
I am curious if you have washed your hands yet of the blood of a NYC cabbie who was attacked because he was a Muslim.  After all you did encourage the re-location of the mosque because it wasn’t “right”.  So I am wondering, how much more blood will be shed before you do the RIGHT thing and live up to your stated goals of fighting bigotry?

6.  The Republican Party, to each one of those candidates who are willing to throw out the constitution for some popular votes, contact them at http://gopleader.gov/Contact/default.aspx I did.. Ladies and Gentlemen – This is where the rubber meets the road.  Do you have the internal fortitude to reign in your candidates who would and have stoked the flames of intolerance and ignorance by using the Park 51 mosque as a point to get a few votes?  Or will you be content and just ask for some more soap to wash the blood from your hands?  I am referring to the NYC cabbie who was stabbed for being a Muslim.  Do the RIGHT thing.  I dare you.

7.  Glenn Beck, Glenn, Glenn, Glenn…what can I say?  How much of this do you own? Contact Glenn at me@glennbeck.com I did .. Glenn,
I have some soap that I would like to send you and Sarah Palin to help you get the blood off your hands?  You  have managed to make folks foam at the mouth with your half truths, innuendos and hate mongering about the Park 51 project.  Congratulations, a cabbie was stabbed in NYC because he was a Muslim.  Kudos Glenn, job well done.  I can hardly wait to see what you come up with next!  On 8/28 you have a wonderful chance to really rally the troops.
Lots of love

I’ll let you know if any of them respond, don’t hold your breath.

The Sky Is Falling, House Prices Are Falling!

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 25, 2010

The Sky is Falling! House Prices are Falling!

It often helps to put a bit of reality into a situation…the chants of the sky is falling and it is Obama’s fault started yesterday.  Stats are wonderful, but like everything else put it in perspective…

  • Real estate prices have further – perhaps much further – to fall.

Inventory overhang still significant. The following may be helpful:

  • Median wages fell 0.3% between 2000-07; unable to support higher home values; prices are now reverting to the long-term mean.
  • 3 reasons to buy a home. In order of importance: 1) roof over your head, 2) tax breaks 3) possibility of price gains. 1 & 2 are guaranteed
  • The extraordinary gains in real estate between ‘01-’07 have only been seen once before – right after WWII, another unusual period.
  • Data going back to the 19th century: real estate appreciates about 1.5% beyond inflation. Yet people think the ’01-’07 period was normal.

Let me give credit where credit is due..this comes from twitter http://twitter.com/westwingreport  – excellent source, verified, well informed, follow!

Do We Wonder How Rumors Get Started?

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on August 25, 2010

The Rumor Mill

Do we wonder how rumors get started?  The Republican National Committee can clear that up for you with a simple tweet.   Todd Herman,  the new media director for the RNC, tweeted the following on Friday:   “Watch – Is @BarackObama amongst the 20% who think he’s Muslim?”  The tweet The message included a link to an interview taped during the 2008 campaign in which Obama stumbled while explaining his religious views.

In fairness to the RNC  they did come out and issue the following statement:  “An errant, or sarcastically-intended tweet aside, the RNC has never spoken about the President’s Christianity because it is both crystal clear and a non-issue…”

Uh,huh.  Thanks.
