Rand Paul – Obama is Being Tough on BP

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 21, 2010

AND?

Again, another Tea Party Sweetheart running for Senate from Kentucky, who evidently has nothing else working for him except the fact that he is a racist and an idiot, evidently those are two requirements to get the Tea Party to endorse you.

It seems Mr. Paul told ABC this morning ..The president being too tough on BP – the oil giant that controls the well that has been leaking thousands of barrels of oil a day in the Gulf since late last month.  “What I don’t like from the president’s administration is this sort of ‘I’ll put my boot heel on the throat of BP…

“I think that sounds really un-American in his criticisms of businesses.”

Would it be more American to just set the earth on fire for a profit?

“I’ve heard nothing from BP about not paying for the spill,” Paul continued. “I think it’s part of this blame game society in the sense that it’s always got to be someone’s fault, instead of the fact that sometimes accidents happen.”

Evidently he hasn’t heard anything about BP clarifying that it will pay all “legitimate” claims, legitimate still to be defined.

Mr. Paul is actually a doctor, an ophthalmologist to be exact.  His motto is .. “A Clear Vision for Kentucky” – that’s a little bit snazzy if it weren’t so frightening.  Perhaps the good doctor needs to consult one of his colleagues and get his vision tested…see when I look at oil spewing into the ocean, tar balls on the beach, eco-systems being destroyed, businesses and lives being destroyed – I see red.  What do you see Dr. Paul?

With me, it is not so much the fact that the accident occurred, which is bad enough. It is the fact that BP and others pushed the idea that this type of drilling is so ridiculously safe now that it wasn’t even worth worrying about (and certainly not worth regulating), and then having this type of accident occurring. It is also the fact that BP clearly had no contingency plan for such an event. (I mean, it is clear as day that BP is just trying stuff out hoping it works. They are clearly just making stuff up as they go along.)

This would be bad enough if it had leaked, but they were able to shut it down within a week. The fact that oil continues to gush into the Gulf even as I type this is what makes this so damning. Frankly given the circumstances, BP has been treated with kid gloves.
