Israel – Piracy of Humanitarian Aid

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 31, 2010

It is ironic that on a day that the US honors those who have fallen and served for the sake of our country, on the other side of the world Israel attacks a flotilla filled with humanitarian aid, things like food, medicine, cement, yes cement, after the invasion into Gaza last year, it has yet to be rebuilt, because Israel won’t let cement into the occupied territories.

While the facts are still coming in…this is what we know:

  • It happened about 40 miles (64 km) out to sea, in international waters.
  • Consists of three cargo ships and three passenger ships
  • Casualties reported on the Mavi Marmara passenger ferry
  • Mavi Marmara is one of three ships provided by Insani Yardim Vakfi (IHH), a Turkish aid organisation with links to the Turkish government
  • Other ships are organised by the Free Gaza Movement, an international coalition of activist groups
  • The activists were attempting to defy a blockade imposed by Israel after the Islamist movement Hamas took power in Gaza in 2007.
  • Israel says it allows about 15,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid into Gaza every week, but the UN says this is less than a quarter of what is needed.
  • The six-ship flotilla, carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid, left the coast of Cyprus on Sunday and had been due to arrive in Gaza on Monday.
  • Israel had repeatedly said the boats would not be allowed to reach Gaza.
  • Contact with activists on the ships was lost after the raids and no first-hand accounts from them have yet emerged.
  • All six boats in the flotilla were boarded according to the IDF but only one, the Mavi Mamara, offered resistance; the other five surrendered peacefully
  • At least nine people have been killed after Israeli commandos stormed a convoy of ships carrying aid to the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army says.
  • By midday Israel had towed three of the six boats to the port of Ashdod and says it will deport the passengers from there.

While we wait for the facts to become more clear, my instinct says, that if I am in  INTERNATIONAL WATERS and somebody attempts or tries to board my ship this is called piracy, some call it terrorism.

Israel has put out its version of events, complete with a video and commentary, nice spin, but this isn’t politics, we are talking about human lives.

World wide condemnation of Israel is coming in, the UN is asking for a full investigation… “We wish to make clear that such tragedies are entirely avoidable if Israel heeds the repeated calls of the international community to end its counterproductive and unacceptable blockade of Gaza,” said a joint statement from Robert Serry, U.N. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Filippo Grandi, Commissioner-General of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency.

It is time for the world to unite and clearly send a message to Israel we will not support you in piracy.

To All Those Who Have Served and Are Serving – Deepest Gratitude

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 31, 2010

Honor Them One and All.

Freedom Is Not Free

– Kelly Strong
I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He’d stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers’ tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom isn’t free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant “Amen,”
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn’t free.

Sarah Knows How to Build a Fence or Just Being Neighborly in Wasilla

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 27, 2010

This woman is just a circus – from her facebook page..

We found out the good news today. Upon my family’s return this morning from endorsement rallies and speeches in the Lower 48 states, I finally got the chance to tackle my garden and lawn this evening! So, putting on the shorts and tank top to catch that too-brief northern summer sun and placing a giddy Trig in his toddler backpack for a lawn-mowing adventure, I looked up in surprise to see a “new neighbor” overlooking my property just a stone’s throw away. Needless to say, our outdoor adventure ended quickly after Todd went to introduce himself to the stranger who was peering in…

Joe announced to Todd that he’s moved in right next door to us. He’s rented the place for the next five months or so. He moved up all the way from Massachusetts to live right next to us – while he writes a book about me. Knowing of his many other scathing pieces of “journalism” (including the bizarre anti-Palin administration oil development pieces that resulted in my Department of Natural Resources announcing that his work is the most twisted energy-related yellow journalism they’d ever encountered), we’re sure to have a doozey to look forward to with this treasure he’s penning. Wonder what kind of material he’ll gather while overlooking Piper’s bedroom, my little garden, and the family’s swimming hole?

On Wednesday, Sarah told Glenn Beck that her husband “Todd and his buddies” were going to build a fence to shield her family from their new neighbor, author Joe McGinniss, and in a mere 24 hours a beautiful 14-foot tall cedar-colored barrier is already up.

Exactly what are you implying Sarah?  That the man is a pedophile?  Grow a pair of balls and say what you mean…or better yet respond to your neighbors allegations…

Seems that the owner of the house right next door became available, was actually offered to the author because the Palins had crossed her.  The Palins owed her money for renovations she had done at their request and never paid her for, and  she knew McGinniss was writing the book and found him and offered him the house.  The neighbor also “turned down more lucrative offers from the National Enquirer who wanted the house so they could ‘stalk’ and take pictures, etc…  (Source Politico)

Obama Accused of Being Anti Military on Memorial Day – or Another Marginal Morning with Fox News

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 26, 2010

I don’t mind people arguing real legitimate points, I don’t even mind not agreeing with them, I can respect a valid argument,  but when the best you can come up with from Fox & Friends hosted by Brian Kilmeade, historian (who evidently  missed a few classes in history)  and assorted others…were forced into finding what Obama did wrong today they focused on his Memorial Day plans –  Which of course were nothing short of evil, and a plot to destroy the entire American way of life by  “Trampling On Tradition” because he would not be at Arlington, VP Biden would be at Arlington.

A quick search, and I am assuming that Fox News has a research staff would have revealed that the world as we know it will not cease to exist, this “tradition” has been “broken” a few times.  In 1983 President Reagan attended a “summit meeting in Williamsburg, Va.” on Memorial Day while Deputy Secretary of Defense W. Paul Thayer laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery. In 1992, George H.W. Bush attended a ceremony in Kennebunkport, Maine (where he also reportedly played a round of golf) while VP Dan Quayle laid the wreath at Arlington. In 2002, President George W. Bush was in  Normandy.  Going back further….the following Presidents Did NOT go to Arlington: Nixon ’69-’74, Carter ’77-’80, Reagan ’83.  As a matter of fact out of the 8 years Reagan was President, 5 of those years he did not go to Arlington…so that must surely make Reagan a communist right? Ford & Clinton went every year they were in office.

Obama will mark the day in a Memorial Day ceremony in his hometown of Chicago.  What Fox has failed to recognize is..ANYPLACE a member of the military is laid to rest is indeed sacred ground, Arlington does not have the corner on the market.

Must have been a slow news day…

The Plot Thickens for Nikki Haley

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 26, 2010

What is it in South Carolina with sex and politics?  Is it in the water?  First, we have  Gov. Mark Sanford who was supposed to be hiking the Appalachian Trail and instead he was mounting somebody in Argentina…and now Sarah Palin’s gal pal Nikki Haley who is running for governor has run into a snag from the former spokesman for Gov. Sanford and a political consultant who admitted he had inappropriate sexual relations with Nikki.  He was single at the time, however the Conservative Republican Nikki Haley was not….she of course denies it, he of course says he has proof….which is dangling before us all a bit at a time to keep us hooked.  I mean really does it get any better?  Those soap opera writers should take a cue from him…gotta hand it to him..

So in an effort to add some more zing and sizzle to this tale I am feeling quite free to add the following picture

Cast of Characters:

Wes Donehue (is a southern political operative who has run, worked on, or advised countless winning campaigns -in his own words)

Jim Davenport – (a reporter with the Associated Press)

Tim Pearson (Nikki Haley’s campaign manager)

Will Folks – the  center of the hurricane, the one who says he has had inappropriate sexual relations with Nikki

Nikki Haley – Sarah Palin’s gal pal, Republican Rep for S.C. ..running for governor

Cue Music…..here are the text messages from http://www.fitsnews.com/2010/05/26/haley-gate-the-storm-before-the-storm/ where we are told more is to come!!!!!!

Who is Fair and Unbiased? ABC? CBS? CNN? Fox? MSNBC?

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 25, 2010

Here’s the fact:  Pres. Obama will send 1,200 national guard troops to patrol the Mexico border.

Here are the headlines from various news outlets, you tell me who is fair and unbiased?  What ever happened to the idea that a journalist was supposed to report the facts, just the facts, don’t give us your opinion, give the public credit for having the ability to interpret the facts.  Three guesses as to which “news” organization flunked the objectivity test

Sarah Gives Rand Paul Advise….or The Blind Leading the Blind

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 24, 2010

Sarah has dispensed her advise to Tea Party sweetheart from Kentucky Rand Paul.  Paul backed out of his Sunday morning talk show appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” citing exhaustion, and a spokesman issued a statement saying Paul wanted to avoid the “liberal bias” of the media. . (more likely he is wondering exactly how do I get out of this hole I dug?  Read the post: https://politicalmonkey2010.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/rand-paul-another-tea-party-racist/)

That liberal bias quote was Sarah’s cue to dispense advise..after all the political experience she has had…speaking on the FOX program, said Paul’s situation was similar to her own interaction with the news media when she became the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008.

“One thing that we can learn in this lesson that I have learned and Rand Paul is learning now is: Don’t assume that you can engage in a hypothetical discussion about constitutional impacts with a reporter or a media personality who has an agenda, who may be prejudiced before they even get into the interview in regards to what your answer may be — and then the opportunity that they seize to get you,” Palin said. “You know, they’re looking for that ‘gotcha’ moment.”

That  “gotcha” moment, might be that same moment when deep inside you…you hear that voice that whispers..geez..is my head right up my ass?    If Dr. Paul is going to take advice from Sarah that should confirm, yes Dr. your head is right up your ass..hey I’m just saying…

Sarah’s Gal Pal Nikki Haley in Trouble? Or Just Another Conservative Sex Scandal?

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 24, 2010

Sarah is telling her gal pal Nikki Haley to hang in there!  Seems like there is another sex scandal from the Conservative South – this time there is a claim that Nikki once had an extramarital affair with a prominent South Carolina political blogger Will Folks,  who wrote Monday that he had an “an inappropriate physical relationship” with Haley..

Who is will Folks?  I didn’t know either..so I went to his website and read…http://www.fitsnews.com/2010/05/24/will-folks-letting-the-chips-fall/

There’s more to this story I’m sure we’ll be hearing it..

By the way is is the definition of “inappropriate”? ….hey I’m just asking..

GOP strategist: ‘If Sarah Palin endorsed me I would be too embarrassed to tell anyone’

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 21, 2010

Let me hear an amen!

On Wednesday, California Republican strategist and Yolo County supervisor Matt Rexroad loaded up Facebook and put up a short complaint about U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina’s embrace of Sarah Palin.  Rexroad is a managing partner of Merdian Pacific, Inc. a strategy firm hired by… Carly Fiorina. While Rexroad doesn’t work on that account, the Fiorina campaign paid Meridian Pacific $31,509.88 for consulting and travel in the first quarter of 2010.

“I hope it’s not a big deal!” he laughed. “I support Carly and I’ll be voting for her, and I think she’s going to win. But from my point of view, I don’t know how you quit as the governor of your state and get taken seriously. I have a client this cycle who tells me I should keep this to myself, but it’s my opinion. Look at Ross Perot — he was rock star for a while, and then after a while people said, hey, he’s kind of crazy.”

Rexroad’s somewhat heretical take on Palin gets at the disconnect that a lot of Republican strategists feel between the former governor’s political influence and her role as a serious figure. At the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, Palin got, by far, the best reception of any possible 2012 candidate who took the stage. But she came in third in the straw poll, and plenty of Republicans told reporters that they hesitated to back her because they didn’t think she could handle the job of president yet.

“It’s good politics to stand there with Palin,” said Rexroad, “but I think there are a lot of other, more accomplished people who voters should take their views from. John McCain has this enormous record and long career, and he’s accomplished so much more than her, if we’re looking for people who’ve endorsed Carly that voters should take their guidance from.”

Rand Paul – Obama is Being Tough on BP

Posted by politicalmonkey2010 on May 21, 2010

AND?

Again, another Tea Party Sweetheart running for Senate from Kentucky, who evidently has nothing else working for him except the fact that he is a racist and an idiot, evidently those are two requirements to get the Tea Party to endorse you.

It seems Mr. Paul told ABC this morning ..The president being too tough on BP – the oil giant that controls the well that has been leaking thousands of barrels of oil a day in the Gulf since late last month.  “What I don’t like from the president’s administration is this sort of ‘I’ll put my boot heel on the throat of BP…

“I think that sounds really un-American in his criticisms of businesses.”

Would it be more American to just set the earth on fire for a profit?

“I’ve heard nothing from BP about not paying for the spill,” Paul continued. “I think it’s part of this blame game society in the sense that it’s always got to be someone’s fault, instead of the fact that sometimes accidents happen.”

Evidently he hasn’t heard anything about BP clarifying that it will pay all “legitimate” claims, legitimate still to be defined.

Mr. Paul is actually a doctor, an ophthalmologist to be exact.  His motto is .. “A Clear Vision for Kentucky” – that’s a little bit snazzy if it weren’t so frightening.  Perhaps the good doctor needs to consult one of his colleagues and get his vision tested…see when I look at oil spewing into the ocean, tar balls on the beach, eco-systems being destroyed, businesses and lives being destroyed – I see red.  What do you see Dr. Paul?
